Palestine’s request for full membership in the United Nations is under consideration
Bayan News – International media outlets have reported that the United Nations Security Council is reviewing Palestine’s request for full membership in the organization.
According to Reuters, an informal session of the Security Council was held on Monday, April 8th, chaired by the current Maltese ambassador at the United Nations headquarters, to discuss the issue of Palestine.
The rotating president of the Security Council added that this matter will reach a conclusion by the end of this month.
Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian representative to the United Nations, stated to reporters after the session, “We sincerely hope that after 12 years of changing our status to that of a non-member observer state, the Security Council will pave the way for the implementation of the two-state solution, which enjoys global support, by accepting Palestine’s full membership.”
Currently, Palestine, like the Vatican, is a non-member observer state in the United Nations.
