Qatar is pressuring Hamas for a ceasefire with Israel

Bayan News – The website “Axios” reported that Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Prime Minister of Qatar, met with senior members of the Hamas group on Tuesday (June 18) and discussed negotiations for a ceasefire.

According to Al Arabiya, Axios quoted an informed source as saying that the Qatari Prime Minister is pressuring Hamas to narrow the gap between Hamas’ proposal and Israel’s proposal, and bring the demands of the two sides closer together.

A few days ago, Jake Sullivan, the White House National Security Advisor, said that Egyptian and Qatari mediators intend to soon contact Hamas leaders to see if there is a way to advance the ceasefire proposal in Gaza presented by US President Joe Biden.

One of the prominent members of the Israeli negotiating team, who is working to reach an agreement for the release of hostages, said on Tuesday that the war will not end with the cessation of the attack on Rafah.

This source, regarding the latest Israeli proposal to Hamas presented earlier this month by US President Joe Biden, said: “There will be no negotiations regarding any other plan, and there is no factor that can change Biden’s plan, which has been accepted by the United Nations Security Council.”

He also stressed the need to obtain guarantees that Hamas will not change the terms of the “Biden agreement”.
