The United Nations Security Council holds a meeting on the situation in Afghanistan
Bayan News – Coinciding with the upcoming third Doha conference, the United Nations Security Council will hold a meeting focused on Afghanistan in the next two days.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has announced that the Security Council meeting will be held on Friday (June 21).
Roza Otunbayeva, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, will deliver a speech on the current situation.
This meeting is being held as the UN Human Rights Council has also dedicated its fifty-seventh session to the human rights situation in Afghanistan, and country representatives in the Council have criticized the Taliban’s deprivation of girls’ education and failure to adhere to human rights laws.
Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights, presented a new report on the human rights situation in Afghanistan at this session, which states that the Taliban continues to exclude women from public life.
Coinciding with this, the third Doha conference will be hosted by the United Nations on June 30, and the Taliban delegation will also participate in this conference.
