Taliban Official: We are in Favor of Constructive Engagement with Western Countries
Bayan News – Zakir Jalali, a Taliban Foreign Ministry official, says that the current Kabul government is in favor of constructive engagement with Western countries, just as progress has been made with neighboring and regional countries.
This Taliban Foreign Ministry official wrote on the X platform on Friday (June 21) that this time, unlike the previous Doha meeting, the conditions for the presence of a Taliban delegation have become favorable, but it remains to be seen how the developments related to this meeting will unfold in less than 10 days.
He stated that the Doha meeting should be evaluated in its appropriate context, and added that in this meeting, the special envoys of some countries for Afghanistan will discuss and talk under the leadership of the UN Deputy Secretary-General.
Jalali wrote: “The Afghan government has also decided to send a delegation, taking into account the agenda and composition of the meeting that was previously shared with the Islamic Emirate. However, it is still unclear at what level the Islamic Emirate will participate in this meeting.”
The Taliban official stated that the agenda of the meeting suggests that the discussions will focus on private sector, financial and banking issues, as well as the fight against drugs and alternative livelihoods.
The Doha meeting will be hosted by the United Nations on June 30 with the participation of Taliban representatives and special representatives of countries for Afghanistan.
