Armed attackers assaulted a Shia mosque in Oman

Bayan News – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has stated in a statement that in an attack on a Shia mosque in Oman, four citizens of this country were killed and 30 others were injured.

Armed individuals attacked when Pakistani Shiites were holding a Muharram ceremony at the Imam Ali Mosque in the “Wadi al-Kabeer” area in eastern Muscat on Tuesday (July 16).

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry has described this attack as “terrorist” and said it is in close contact with Omani authorities.

On the other hand, the Pakistani ambassador to Oman told the French news agency that most of the people who frequent this mosque are South Asian immigrants and added that 400,000 Pakistani immigrants live in Oman.

The French news agency, citing the Indian embassy in Oman, wrote that an Indian citizen was among the dead and another Indian citizen was among the injured.

According to this report, the Omani police, however, only confirmed the killing of six people and the injury of 28 people.

The Omani police said that the injured are of different nationalities.

The police of this country also said that three attackers were involved in this shooting, all of whom were killed.

So far, no individual or group has claimed responsibility for this attack.

Such attacks are rare in Oman, a country with a population of four million.

Shiites make up a small minority of Oman’s population, and this is the first attack on one of their mosques.
