OCHA: Floods in Afghanistan have affected more than 80,000 people

Bayan News – The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has recently reported that the ongoing floods in Afghanistan have affected around 83,000 people.

This agency stated in its report on Sunday (August 4) that the heavy rainfall in several provinces of Afghanistan, especially in the western regions, has caused extensive destruction.

Referring to the consequences of the floods and the resulting damage in Afghanistan, OCHA stressed that currently about 12.4 million people are facing food insecurity.

According to this report, 23.7 million people in Afghanistan are in need of basic assistance, and 48% of the country’s population is still living below the poverty line.

OCHA added that in such a situation, the deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan has further exacerbated the food crisis in Afghanistan.

It is worth noting that this year, floods and heavy rains have occurred in most provinces of Afghanistan, leaving a significant number of casualties and massive financial losses for the people.
