President of UNAMA to the Taliban: The recent three-month report on Afghanistan will be shared with the Security Council members
Bayan News – Roza Otunbayeva, head of UNAMA and Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Kabul, stated during a meeting with senior Taliban officials that she will present the quarterly report on Afghanistan to the Security Council of the organization.
The Taliban’s office announced on Wednesday (September 4) that the head of UNAMA met today with Mawlavi Abdul Kabir, Deputy Political Prime Minister of the Taliban.
In this meeting, the head of UNAMA added that efforts will be made to hold a conference with the participation of many countries and institutions regarding the alternative cultivation of opium poppy and other drugs, treatment for addicts, and support for farmers, and that representatives of the Taliban will also be invited to this meeting.
Ms. Otunbayeva further noted that there is a need for more work in the current situation in Afghanistan to eliminate the impact of drug production and to provide suitable alternatives for the people’s livelihoods.
According to the head of UNAMA, she will share the quarterly report of the UN Assistance Mission regarding Afghanistan with the members of the UN Security Council.
On the other hand, the Deputy Political Prime Minister of the Taliban emphasized that UNAMA should share the recent facts and developments in Afghanistan with the Security Council.
The UN Security Council meeting concerning Afghanistan will be held this month.
