Bayan News – Some international media outlets, citing United Nations officials, have reported that the Taliban have suspended the polio vaccination campaign.
The Guardian and Associated Press were among the international media that reported this on Monday (September 16).
Officials from the World Health Organization have added that this decision by the Taliban was made in September, prior to the start of the polio vaccination campaign.
According to published reports, the Taliban have not commented on the suspension of the polio vaccination campaigns.
However, one official from the World Health Organization noted that the Taliban oppose house-to-house vaccination efforts and emphasize conducting campaigns in mosques.
Reports indicate that during the vaccination campaign held in June of this year, the Taliban prevented house-to-house vaccination in Kandahar.
Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only countries that have not yet succeeded in eradicating polio.
On the other hand, it was previously reported that the Taliban have prohibited girls and women from participating in the vaccination campaign in some areas of Kabul.
