Taliban: Pakistan should respect the legitimate demands of the people
Bayan News – In response to the third day of protests by Imran Khan’s supporters in Pakistan, the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on Islamabad to respect the legitimate demands of the people and protesters.
Abdul Qahar Balkhi, spokesperson for the ministry, stated on Sunday (May 6) in an official statement that negotiation is the only suitable solution to overcome the challenges, and that the Pakistani government must comply with the demands of the people.
He added that the Taliban government of Afghanistan is closely monitoring the situation in Pakistan and the protests there.
The Taliban spokesperson’s statement read: “Recent events have shown that refusal to negotiate complicates the issue further.”
The Taliban’s reaction to the political situation in Pakistan comes as supporters of Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, have held massive protests in several provinces, demanding his release from prison.
These protests turned violent after the intervention of Pakistani police, resulting in the arrest of dozens of people.
Additionally, Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior announced that more than a hundred Afghan citizens involved in the protests have also been arrested.
The Taliban has urged the Pakistani government to negotiate and consider the legitimate demands of the people, despite the fact that, since taking control of Afghanistan, the group has consistently ignored the rights of its own citizens and suppressed political opposition.
