Bayan News – On Wednesday, October 23, BRICS members issued a joint declaration, calling on the Taliban to lift the ban on girls’ education in Afghanistan and respect the fundamental rights of the people, including ethnic groups.
At the conclusion of their 16th summit, BRICS leaders emphasized the need to secure the basic rights of Afghan citizens, including the rights of women, girls, and various ethnic groups in the country.
According to the declaration, the international community should provide humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan under the current circumstances, and the Taliban should also remove the ban on girls’ secondary and higher education.
BRICS members stated in the declaration that more visible and verifiable actions must be taken in Afghanistan to ensure that Afghan soil is not used by terrorist groups.
One part of the declaration reads: “We support Afghanistan as an independent, united, and peaceful country, free from terrorism, war, and drugs.”
BRICS emphasized the primary and effective role of regional platforms and Afghanistan’s neighboring countries in resolving the country’s issues, and welcomed efforts from regional initiatives to facilitate a solution for Afghanistan.
The 16th BRICS Summit, with the participation of 36 countries and 6 international organizations, began on Tuesday, October 22, in the city of Kazan, in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia, and will continue until Thursday, October 24.
The BRICS group, or emerging economies, was established in 2009 with the participation of Brazil, Russia, India, and China in Russia, and South Africa joined the group in 2010.
