Iranian Researcher: The Number of Afghan Students in Tehran is Higher Than in Kabul

Bayan News – An Iranian researcher has recently reported that there are currently 60,000 Afghan students in Iran, a figure higher than that of Afghan migrants in other countries.

Mandana Tisheh-Yar, Deputy Research Director at Allameh Tabataba’i University in Iran and a researcher in migration studies, stated: “It can be said that today the number of Afghan students in Tehran is greater than in Kabul.”

The Iranian researcher made these remarks during a specialized conference titled “Analyzing the Challenges of Afghan Migrants in Iran: Political Requirements and Priorities”.

She noted that Afghan citizens have migrated to various countries around the world, but none of these countries host 60,000 Afghan students.

The professor also claimed: “Tehran is considered the academic capital of Afghanistan, as, in addition to students, a significant number of Afghan university professors also reside in Tehran.”

It is worth mentioning that many Afghan migrants in Iran enroll and study at Iranian universities primarily to obtain residency permits.
