The Hague court issues arrest warrant for Putin

Bayan News

The Hague-based International Criminal Court on Friday (March 17th) accused President Vladimir Putin of war crimes and issued a warrant for his arrest.

According to international media, the court issued a statement saying that the Russian president may be held responsible for war crimes for illegally expelling the population and transporting them from the occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia.

In addition to Putin, the ICC has also issued an arrest warrant for Maria, Alexiriona Lovah Bellova, commissioner of children’s rights in the Russian presidential office, on charges of similar crimes.

The court’s statement stated that there were certain reasons for committing such crimes (illegally expelling the population and transporting them from occupied areas to Russia).

The statement added: “Mr. Vladimir Putin, born on 7 Akbar 1952, president of the Russian Federation is accused of war crimes of illegally expelling the population (children) and illegally transferring the population (children) from the occupied regions of Ukraine to Russia. The atrocities have occurred in the occupied ukrainian territories since at least February 24, 2022. “There are credible and logical reasons to accuse Mr. Putin of having criminal responsibility for carrying out these crimes.”

This comes a year after Russia’s military offensive against Ukraine killed or wounded thousands of civilians, as well as thousands of other Ukrainians from displaced areas and sought refuge in neighboring countries.
