Recently, pictures of Tom West, the US special representative for Afghanistan in Turkey, have been published, showing him having discussions with political opponents of the Taliban.
West said in a tweet that he met with political figures and members of the Afghan civil society in Istanbul, Turkey and had discussions about the current situation in Afghanistan.
He has heard the deep concerns of political figures and members of civil society regarding the Taliban’s decisions, especially regarding the rights of women and girls in the field of education and work.
“The other thing was that there had to be a peaceful way forward,” West’s tweet said. “Dialogue is the way of translation, not violence.”
The US special representative for Afghanistan met with members of the National Resistance Council, women’s rights activists in Turkey, and Karim Khalili, the leader of the Islamic Unity Party of Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Nateqi, a member of the Supreme National Resistance Council of Afghanistan, wrote on his Facebook that various issues such as the suppression of freedoms, violation of human rights and women’s rights, the security issue and the development of terrorist activities in Afghanistan, and the issue of poverty of the Afghan people were raised in these negotiations.
Nateqi write: “The central discussion and the main plan of the problem was the political solution. In this meeting, we emphasized that the fundamental and main issue is political dialogue and agreement. A political solution does not mean an all-inclusive administration. The solution is an agreement on a political system, popular and acceptable to the people of Afghanistan.”
According to Nateqi, in order to create conditions for peace and agreement, the United Nations should plan the talks on behalf of the international community, because the United Nations is a reliable mediator and authority for all parties.
