UNICEF: Unexploded War Remnants in Afghanistan Claim More Child Victims

Bayan News – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has recently expressed concern that unexploded war remnants in Afghanistan are claiming more child victims than any other group in the country.

The organization stated on Thursday (August 23) on the social media platform “X” that 85% of the victims of unexploded ordnance are children.

UNICEF emphasized that Afghanistan is one of the most heavily contaminated countries with war weaponry and, in collaboration with the European Union, it is striving to educate Afghan children about explosive devices and promote their avoidance.

However, recently, several international organizations have released reports stating that since last year, a total of 640 children in Afghanistan have been killed or injured due to explosions from leftover landmines and unexploded ordnance.

Simultaneously, the interim Kabul government has been working with international organizations over the past two years to clear minefields and unexploded ordnance from various locations throughout the country.
