Pakistan’s Interior Minister Expresses Concern over Widespread TTP Attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Bayan News – Sarfraz Bugati, Pakistan’s Interior Minister, has issued a warning that the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has launched a major offensive in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region and is actively recruiting individuals and suicide bombers.
He voiced his concerns in the Pakistani Senate. The Pakistani Senate has discussed the increased activities of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan following the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan and the weakening of the Pakistani government.
According to Dawn News, the Interior Minister stated in his statement, “The infiltration of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan into a significant number of merged tribal districts continues, which is accompanied by recruitment, training, and deployment of suicide bombers, causing concern.”
Bugati further stated that the TTP has significantly intensified its activities and is attempting to support other militant groups to increase its power.
Furthermore, the Pakistani Interior Minister, referring to the establishment of ISIS bases in the country, added that ISIS seeks to activate its centers and carry out terrorist attacks against Shias and religious minorities.
This comes as, in recent years, ISIS has conducted several attacks against Shia communities in certain parts of Pakistan and has inflicted casualties among Shias and religious minorities.
Recently, the Counter Terrorism Department of Pakistan had arrested the financial branch of the ISIS in the city of Peshawar.
