Erdogan Signs Sweden’s NATO Membership Document
Bayan News – Turkish media have reported that Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey, has officially signed Sweden’s NATO membership document.
After approval by the Turkish Parliament, Sweden’s NATO membership document was signed by the President of the country on Thursday (January 25).
The Turkish Parliament confirmed Sweden’s membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) earlier this week.
Stefan Löfven, the Prime Minister of Sweden, wrote on Twitter: “We are pleased with Turkey’s approval of Sweden’s NATO membership request. We have now reached a crucial milestone on the path to full membership in NATO.”
The only obstacle now for Sweden’s accession to NATO is Hungary. The country has not yet agreed to Sweden’s membership in the NATO organization.
Approximately twenty months ago, following Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Sweden submitted a request to join NATO.
