Climate Change Conference in Nangarhar; World Urged to Allocate Budget to Afghanistan

Bayan News – Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, the political deputy of the Taliban government, has called on countries around the world at the International Climate Change Conference to provide financial cooperation to Afghanistan.

The Taliban government held a conference titled “International Climate Change Conference” at Nangarhar University on Sunday, February 10th.

In this conference, Taliban officials stated that Afghanistan has been affected by climate change and requires cooperation.

In his speech, the political deputy of the Taliban added that the world, especially industrialized countries, have a responsibility to prevent the damages caused by climate change in Afghanistan.

According to this Taliban official, the United Nations should take practical and effective steps to implement the existing processes related to climate change.

Meanwhile, Neda Mohammad Nadeem, the acting Minister of Higher Education for the Taliban, also requested the international community to allocate a budget to Afghanistan in order to mitigate the impacts of climate change without any political considerations.

On the other hand, Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Taliban, stated in a meeting with the special representative of the President of Russia on climate issues that Afghanistan has no role in greenhouse gas emissions but is not immune to the negative effects of climate change.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs published on Sunday, February 10th, Muttaqi requested Russia to provide training to Afghan environmental and forestry officials and to support Moscow’s presence in international environmental conservation conferences.

However, the special representative of the President of Russia on climate issues has promised to share the real picture of Afghanistan with his country’s president.
