Restriction of Afghan women; The UN Security Council is meeting

Bayannews – 11 May 2022

Following the escalation of serious restrictions on Afghan women by the Taliban, the permanent members of the UN Security Council are focusing on women and human rights in Afghanistan.

The UN Security Council meeting, proposed by the Norwegian government, will be held tomorrow, Thursday (May 22nd), to discuss the human rights situation, the release of women and girls, and the imposition of new restrictions on the Taliban.

Recently, the Kabul-based government imposed full hijab on Afghan women, and the Taliban ordered in a new directive that wearing a burqa or chador be the best type of hijab.

The international community and international organizations reacted strongly to the Taliban directive, telling the Taliban that such actions would have a negative impact on relations between the Taliban and the international community.

The United States has made it clear that it will put more pressure on the current government in Kabul than ever before if the Taliban does not lift its restrictions on women.
