Roza Otunbayeva, the UN Secretary-General’s representative for Afghanistan, says that she has told Afghan women that as long as the bans are in place, it will be almost impossible to recognize the caretaker government in Kabul.

He made these statements at the meeting of the United Nations Security Council. The meeting of this council was held on Wednesday evening (June 21) in a special way, focusing on Afghanistan.

“We have told Afghan women and girls that it is almost impossible to recognize them as long as the Taliban’s orders against women remain in place,” Otunbayeva added.

According to Otenbayeva, no assurances have been given by the caretaker government of Kabul to remove the restrictions against Afghan women and girls.

The representative of the United Nations Secretary General stated that the situation in Afghanistan is complicated and noted that the imposed restrictions have a negative impact on the United Nations aid activities.

He also stated in the Security Council meeting that he rejected the proposal of some officials of the caretaker government of Kabul to hire male employees instead of local female employees in the United Nations offices.

Ms. Atunbayeva said she rejected the proposal of some Taliban officials to hire male employees instead of local female employees in the UN offices.

He clarified that UNAMA asked local female employees in Afghanistan not to attend the offices of this organization, and men were also asked to work from their homes in order to respect the non-discrimination law.
