Unprecedented Increase in Trade Goods Transportation via Rail in Afghanistan

Bayan News – Bakhtullah Rahmani, the head of the railway department, stated during the government’s financial report to the nation that in the first three months of this year, compared to the same period last year, the transportation of trade goods via rail has increased by 25 percent.

He said on Saturday (July 29) at a press conference that in the past year, the country’s railways have transported 4.5 million metric tons of goods from commercial ports to international markets.

Mr. Rahmani added, “In the transportation sector, compared to last year, in the first quarter of this year, we have a 25 percent increase. That is, in the revenues from transportation via rail from regional countries to Afghanistan or in the transit sector at the ports of Hairatan, Aqina, Turgundi, and Rozgan, we have a 25 percent increase in our current year.”

According to officials of this department, the Afghanistan Railway Department has been able to collect all its revenues through the banking system, and they assure that not a single Afghani of the Railway Department’s revenues is wasted or stolen; all revenues are collected transparently.

According to officials, the start and completion of the first and second phases of the Khaf-Herat railway project, the start of construction of the Andkhoy-Sheberghan railway project, the development of the railway stations of Rozgan, Turgundi, Aqina, and Hairatan-Mazar-e-Sharif, as well as the follow-up of the Afghanistan-Transit railway project and the Spin Boldak-Chaman railway project are among the most important future programs of this department.
