Flash Floods in Libya Leave Hundreds Dead

Bayan News – The Libyan Red Crescent announced yesterday (September 11) that at least 200 people have lost their lives as a result of storms and flash floods in the country.

According to international media reports, the leader of the unrecognized government in eastern Libya has stated that the death toll from this natural disaster exceeds 2,000.

The storm reached the Libyan coast from Europe two days ago, leading to a declaration of a state of emergency in the country.

During the rescue operations, seven soldiers from the Libyan army have also gone missing.

Authorities in eastern Libya have imposed traffic restrictions and closed schools and shops.

According to published reports, the cities of Benghazi, Susah, Derna, and Al-Marj have suffered significant damage from this storm.

Since the death of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, during the wave of uprisings known as the “Arab Spring,” Libya has been governed by two rival administrations, both of which have now declared three days of public mourning.
