UNAMA Welcomes Small Loans for Women’s Economic Activities in Afghanistan

Bayan News – Ros Otunbayeva, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, says that women in Afghanistan need small loans for economic activities.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) announced today, Tuesday, October 31st, that Ros Otunbayeva and her deputy, Daniel, welcomed the discussions and conversations about the challenges and opportunities for revitalizing this sector during the Small Loans Conference.

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, during a visit to women’s economic activities, stated that Afghanistan has created a suitable environment for microfinance institutions to increase access to affordable loans for women and men. This would enable them to engage in job creation, income generation, poverty reduction, and facilitate economic development and self-sufficiency.

Over the past two years, UNAMA has recognized the limitations on the economic activities of women in Afghanistan and has supported domestic production by women.
