West in Pakistan: Advocating for the Protection of Vulnerable Afghans

Bayan News – Tom West, the US Special Representative, during his visit to Pakistan, stated that he had discussions and dialogues with the leadership of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration in Islamabad.

He wrote on the X platform on Saturday afternoon (December 9th) that he had discussed with officials of these organizations regarding support for Afghans who are more vulnerable and at risk.

The US Special Representative for Afghanistan further explained that he had also met with Afghan refugees in Pakistan and emphasized that the United States is advocating for their (vulnerable Afghans) protection.

According to West, the United States has provided $77 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration this year.

The US Special Representative is traveling to Pakistan at a time when the recent forced expulsion of Afghans by the Pakistani government has significantly increased.

In recent months, nearly 500,000 individuals who were living illegally in Pakistan have been repatriated to Afghanistan.

The forced expulsion of Afghans by Pakistan has garnered international reactions, with countries and international organizations considering this action contrary to human rights values.
