US and UK Attack Houthi Bases in Yemen; Russia Calls for Urgent UN Security Council Meeting
Bayan News – Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations has announced that Moscow has requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council regarding the US and UK attacks on Houthi positions.
According to the Russian news agency TASS, the meeting will be held at 10 am US time.
US forces announced this morning, Friday (January 12), that US and British forces have launched attacks on over 60 targets in 16 locations used by Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Alex Greenovich, Commander of US Central Air Forces, added, “We are committed to defending our important partners throughout the Middle East against Iranian-backed paramilitary groups, including the Houthi militias, who pose a threat to regional security and stability.”
According to the US General, more than 100 precision-guided missiles have been used in these attacks against the Houthis.
The US military has stated that the targets of the attacks have been command and control centers, ammunition depots, missile launch systems, production facilities, and Houthi air defense radar.
Houthi Response
Simultaneously, Yemen’s Houthi rebels have announced that they will not leave the US and UK attacks unanswered but will continue their attacks on ships in the Red Sea headed towards Israel or related to it.
Abdul Salam, the Houthi spokesperson, said this morning, “We emphasize that there is no justification for this aggression against Yemen because we pose no threat to international shipping in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea.”
He added, “We will only target Israeli ships or ships heading towards occupied Palestinian ports.”
