China’s Representative for Afghanistan: Doha Conference Failed to Facilitate Talks with the Taliban

Bayan News – One week after the Doha conference hosted by the United Nations, China’s representative for Afghanistan says that the conference failed to provide a platform for talks with the Taliban.

Yao Yong, today on Sunday (24th February), wrote on the X platform that the expectations of China and regional countries from the Doha conference were not met.

According to this Chinese diplomat, despite that, the Doha conference has been useful for discussion, stronger interaction, and more practical engagement with Afghanistan.

He added, “Once again, the Doha conference failed to facilitate a platform for dialogue with the interim government of Afghanistan as China and regional countries had hoped.”

China’s representative for Afghanistan further stated that the participants of the Doha conference emphasized the continuation of humanitarian assistance, inclusive governance, and the resumption of education for women and girls in Afghanistan.

Yong stated that the United States should take responsibility for the reconstruction of Afghanistan and also release the frozen assets of the country.

The second Doha conference was held on the 18th and 19th of this month, hosted by the United Nations and with the participation of special representatives from 25 countries.

However, this conference did not yield the expected results as anticipated by the people of Afghanistan, and some special representatives of countries did not engage with Afghan civil activists and women’s representatives in the Doha conference.
