An Austrian citizen has been released from Taliban captivity with the mediation of Qatar
Bayan News – The Qatari Foreign Ministry has announced that, with the mediation of the country, an Austrian citizen has been freed from the grip of the Taliban.
The ministry stated in a newsletter on Monday (February 25th) that the Austrian citizen has entered Doha after being released, but no information has been given regarding his identity and the circumstances of his detention.
Qatar’s Foreign Minister has expressed appreciation to the Taliban authorities for the release of this Austrian citizen.
Interim Taliban government officials have not commented on this matter thus far.
Meanwhile, Karl Nehammer, the Chancellor of Austria, has expressed gratitude for the Qatari Foreign Minister’s efforts in the release of this Austrian citizen.
It is worth mentioning that last year, the Austrian Foreign Ministry had announced that one of its citizens was detained by the Taliban during a trip to Afghanistan.
