Biden: Ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel will be reached by next week
Bayan News – In a television interview, Joe Biden, the President of the United States, claimed that a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Hamas group will be achieved by Monday of next week.
Biden, in an interview with ABC News last night (February 26), added that Israel has shown its willingness to agree to a temporary ceasefire with Hamas.
The US President said, “Ramadan is approaching, and the Israelis have agreed to exercise restraint during the month of Ramadan to give us time to evacuate all hostages.”
According to Biden, Israel has committed to evacuate the Rafah city before intensifying its attacks in order to prevent civilian casualties.
He reiterated that a temporary ceasefire agreement between the two parties will create a conducive environment for Palestinians to have an independent state.
Meanwhile, sources familiar with the ceasefire negotiations taking place in Paris have told Reuters that Hamas is evaluating a draft ceasefire proposal with Israel that would lead to a cessation of hostilities and the release of hostages and captives.
According to the sources, under the proposed ceasefire plan, in the first stage, Hamas will release 40 Israeli hostages, and in the second stage, Israel will release approximately 400 Palestinian prisoners and will not re-arrest them.
