Taliban Foreign Minister Holds Talks with Turkmenistan Officials on Railway Development in Afghanistan

Bayan News – Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban, has held discussions with Turkmenistan officials regarding increasing transportation between the two countries and expanding the capacity of the railway at the Torghundi port.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a newsletter on Wednesday (February 27) that Amir Khan Muttaqi had a meeting with Mohammad Khan Chakiyev, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers for Transport Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, discussions were held on increasing transportation between the two countries, expanding the railway at the Torghundi port, and facilitating trade for Afghan traders at the Turkmenbashi port.

The Taliban Foreign Minister stated that Afghanistan is ready to enhance trade and transit exchanges with Turkmenistan through investments in the railway sector.

According to Muttaqi, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan should work jointly with partner countries along the Lapis Lazuli Route to implement and revive the route.

Meanwhile, Turkmenistan officials added that in the near future, a railway agreement between Afghanistan and their country will be signed, and based on this agreement, the reconstruction of the Torghundi railway will commence.
