A visually impaired woman from Afghanistan has won the US Department of State’s Courage Award

Bayan News – According to a statement by the US Department of State, Benafsha Yaqoobi, a former member of the Afghan Human Rights Commission, has been recognized as the recipient of the department’s Courage Award.

In the statement released on Friday, March 1st, the US Department of State stated that this award will be presented to Ms. Yaqoobi and 11 other women on the fourth of this month.

The US Department of State also mentioned that Benafsha Yaqoobi and her husband had established an organization in 2008 and have been actively working as advocates for women’s rights, specifically those facing domestic violence.

It is reported that this woman is currently living in exile.

The US Department of State’s Courage Award is presented every year in March to women who are fighting to improve the status of women.
