Mujahid’s Reaction to UNAMA Report: Interprets UN as portraying insecurity

Bayan News – Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the interim Taliban government, deemed the United Nations’ quarterly report on Afghanistan as biased and labeled it as an unsuccessful attempt by certain intelligence circles to disrupt and create intrigue.

Mujahid expressed his views on the recent United Nations report presented to the UN Security Council in a statement today on Friday (March 7).

The Taliban spokesperson stated: “Instead of recognizing the events that have occurred in operations against drug traffickers and acknowledging the vigilance of security forces, this issue has been used to portray Afghanistan’s insecurity to the public.”

Mujahid added in the statement: “These actions are being carried out at the behest of certain specific intelligence circles and nefarious elements that are attempting, unsuccessfully, to exert pressure on the Islamic Emirate.”

According to the Taliban spokesperson, over the past year, as a result of the swift fight against drugs, 14,000 drug traffickers have been arrested and handed over to authorities; more than 5,500 tons of drugs have been destroyed.

When asked how the UN is contributing to distorting the mindset of the busy people and interpreting security as insecurity, Mujahid responded that the current system in Afghanistan doubts this report and sees it as an abuse of the name and reputation of the United Nations.

The UNAMA quarterly report, recently presented at the United Nations Security Council meeting, states that insecurity has increased by 37% in the past year.

While the report praises the Taliban’s achievements in combating drugs and corruption, it is deemed insufficient for ensuring lasting stability for Afghanistan’s future.
