Switzerland donates $1.7 million to the people of Afghanistan

Bayan News – The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced a $1.7 million donation from Switzerland for the people of Afghanistan.

The organization stated today, Tuesday, March 12, on the X platform that this aid has been delivered to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund.

According to OCHA, the Swiss government has contributed $19.7 million to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund since 2016.

This assistance comes at a time when the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan is worsening every day.

According to international agencies, currently, 20 million people in Afghanistan are in need of emergency humanitarian assistance, with more than 50 percent of them being women and girls.

The United Nations has stated in its recent meetings on Afghanistan that only three percent of the total $3 billion needed to address the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan has been funded.
