According to Russian media, there was an initial explosion followed by an armed assault by the attackers at the concert venue.
Preliminary information from the Russian Federal Security Service indicates that at least 40 people have lost their lives in this armed attack, and over 100 others have been injured.
Russian security agencies have increased security measures on all ground and air routes in Moscow.
