Bayan News – Media outlets under Taliban control reported on Monday (April 7th) the release of two thousand prisoners on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
Abdulwali Mahmood, Deputy Director of the Taliban’s Inspection Department, added that the process of identifying eligible prisoners for release is ongoing.
According to this Taliban official, the released prisoners will be with their families during the holiday.
It is unclear under what charges these prisoners were detained.
Earlier reports stated that the Taliban had released several prisoners in some provinces of Afghanistan on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
