The Iranian ambassador expressed gratitude to the Taliban for releasing water from the Helmand River to Sistan, Iran
Bayan News – Amirkhan Muttaqi, the acting head of the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met and held discussions with Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the Iranian ambassador in Kabul, on Monday (April 21).
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs newsletter, this meeting focused on regional developments, strengthening relations, and other bilateral issues.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, citing the Iranian ambassador, added: “He (Qomi) expressed continued gratitude for removing the obstacles to the flow of water from the Helmand River to Sistan, considering water as an important factor in the expansion of bilateral relations, and expressed hope that the water flow would continue.”
Meanwhile, Amirkhan Muttaqi continued to evaluate the relations between Afghanistan and Iran positively, and called for further expansion of these relations in all areas.
The acting head of the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, referring to recent rainfall in Afghanistan, stated that precipitation had occurred in the country this year, and after several years of drought, a remarkable amount of water flowed downstream to the Helmand River in Nimruz province and also to Sistan in that country.
This is happening while the issue of water rights had become a contentious matter between Iran and Afghanistan in the past year.
