US Secretary of State: Taliban Have Continued Human Rights Violations in the Past Year

Bayan News – Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, states that the Taliban have continued to violate human rights, including public execution of accused individuals, in the past calendar year.

Blinken made these remarks last night (April 22nd) during a press conference while presenting the US Human Rights Report 2023.

The US Secretary of State clearly stated that the Taliban regime has also deprived women in Afghanistan of employment opportunities.

He said, “In Afghanistan, the Taliban have limited employment opportunities for women, closed educational institutions for girls, and continue to increase the flogging of women and men accused of immoral behavior.”

However, the US Secretary of State emphasized in his statements that the United States has faced its own shortcomings in promoting human rights in other countries. “We recognize that America faces its own shortcomings. We examine deficiencies and shortcomings without concealment.”

The US Department of State has prepared its report on the human rights situation in nearly 200 countries worldwide, including Afghanistan and Gaza.

Officials from the Taliban’s interim government have not yet responded to this report.
