Bayan News – The United Nations Women’s section in Afghanistan (UN Women) has called on the Taliban to directly hear the voice of Afghan women.
The United Nations agency published on Wednesday (April 24th) on the X platform, on the occasion of World Day of “Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace,” the following: “We urge all multilateral actors to create spaces where the voice of Afghan women can be directly heard and provide financial support behind Afghan women.”
The United Nations Women’s section raises this issue at a time when Afghan women and girls have experienced the most severe restrictions in the past three years.
The Taliban has issued over five restrictive orders that prohibit girls’ education and women’s participation in offices.
Despite international efforts to reverse these orders, the Taliban has not yet changed its stance towards women and girls.
Taliban leaders consider the issue of women and girls as an internal matter and have urged the international community not to intervene in Afghanistan’s internal affairs.
Despite the Taliban’s explicit stance, several countries, including the United States, have reported on the human rights situation in Afghanistan and expressed deep concern about its severity.
In its 2023 annual report, the U.S. Department of State adds that the Taliban continues to perpetuate human rights violations.
Recently, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State stated that the Taliban will face increased pressure to revoke discriminatory laws against women.
