Bayan News – According to reports from Afghan media, tonight (April 29) a session of the United Nations Human Rights Council on Afghanistan is scheduled to take place, where a national report on the human rights situation in the country will be presented.

The report to be presented at the United Nations Human Rights Council session states that any interaction with the Taliban must be conditional on the respect for human rights and the establishment of an inclusive government.

According to the national report of the Human Rights Council, despite the Taliban’s commitments to respect human rights, the citizens of Afghanistan, especially women, continue to face systematic discrimination.

The report states: “Interaction with the Taliban should be seen as a means to revive a political solution as envisaged in several United Nations resolutions, rather than as an end in itself.”

The Afghanistan team at the Human Rights Council has reiterated that the world must take measures to facilitate the establishment of an inclusive and representative government for the people.

Meanwhile, Nasir Ahmad Andisha, Afghanistan’s representative in Geneva, expressed hope on Monday (April 30) in a video statement that the national report on the human rights situation presented at the United Nations Human Rights Council session would clarify the human rights situation in Afghanistan to the world.

Mr. Andisha provided information that this national report was prepared by 34 civil society organizations and human rights institutions.

According to him, former members of the House of Representatives, civil society organizations, former Minister of Women’s Affairs, university professors, and diplomats are present in this body.

The last session of the United Nations Human Rights Council took place approximately three months ago, during which concerns were expressed about the severity of the human rights situation in Afghanistan.
