UNAMA to Taliban: Take immediate action to protect Shia Muslims

Bayan News – The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has condemned the attack on a Shia mosque in the Gozarah district of Herat province that occurred last night.

The agency issued a statement on Tuesday, April 30, on the X platform, calling on the Taliban to immediately initiate their investigations to identify the perpetrators of this event.

UNAMA continues to urge the Taliban to take immediate action to protect Shia Muslims in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, officials from the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior have confirmed this incident, stating that an unidentified armed individual opened fire on mosque worshippers with a Kalashnikov rifle last night.

However, eyewitnesses have stated that two armed individuals on motorcycles fired at the worshippers and fled the scene.

In this event, seven Shia Muslims lost their lives, including women and children.

Shia-populated areas of Herat province have been subjected to several armed attacks in the past year, with ISIS claiming responsibility for most of these incidents.
