Women journalists and businesswomen seek UN support

Bayan News – Alongside the continued restrictions on women and girls by the Taliban, the United Nations’ Women’s Division says that women journalists and businesswomen have sought its support.

Allison Davidian, a representative of the UN Women’s Division, visited Nangarhar in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday (May 28) and met and spoke with several women journalists and female economic activists.

The UN Women’s Division added that a group of female activists are working to have the UN support their activities within Afghanistan.

It is worth noting that after the Taliban took power in Afghanistan, they restricted the media and prohibited women from working in domestic and international offices, including the UN.

Furthermore, according to statistics from human rights organizations, the Taliban have issued more than 50 restrictive decrees against women and girls.
