Iran expressed dissatisfaction with the Taliban’s changes in the Afghan consulate in Mashhad
Bayan News – Nasser Kanani, the spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that any changes in the staff of the Taliban’s consulate in this country must be in accordance with the 1963 Vienna Convention.
The spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs made these statements on Thursday (May 30) in response to the Taliban’s appointment of a new consul general in the city of Mashhad, Iran, and said that the Taliban must act according to international regulations in this regard.
The Taliban have recently appointed Nasir Ahmad Haqqani, the deputy ambassador of Afghanistan, as the consul general in the city of Mashhad.
According to the spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, any appointment and change of personnel in any consular position is within the competence of the sending government; but it must be introduced through the defined channels and after obtaining the consent of the receiving government and obtaining a visa, enter the receiving country.
He stated that the Director-General of South Asia of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has conveyed this issue to the Chargé d’Affaires of the Afghan Embassy in Tehran, and this issue has also been communicated to other officials of the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mr. Kanani added that Tehran expects the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs to make any changes to its consular staff in accordance with the 1963 Vienna Convention and on the basis of well-known international methods.
