The third meeting of the Contact Group for Afghanistan, without the participation of the Taliban, was held in Tehran

Bayan News – The third meeting of the Contact Group, with the participation of representatives from China, Pakistan, Iran, and Russia, was held today, Saturday (June 8), in Tehran.

The Taliban have refrained from attending this meeting.

Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the Iranian President’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Affairs, added in this meeting: “We must bear in mind that the events that are taking place have their own impacts on the region.”

The Iranian President’s representative also stated that the participants of the Contact Group meeting would discuss their dialogues on collective engagement with the Taliban and reaching an agreement on holding the third meeting of the regional Contact Group.

On the other hand, Taliban officials have refrained from attending this meeting.

Zakir Jalali, a Taliban Foreign Ministry official, wrote on the X platform that they have been invited to the meeting in Tehran about Afghanistan, but they will not participate.

This Taliban official emphasized that it is expected that meetings with a focus on Afghanistan will be held through established and well-known mechanisms.
