Taliban Banned from Participating in the Paris Olympics
Bayan News – The International Olympic Committee has announced that no Taliban officials will be allowed to attend the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Mark Adams, a spokesperson for the International Olympic Committee, said in a press conference on Thursday (June 13): “The formation of a gender-balanced team is a message to Afghanistan, where the Taliban has restricted women and girls’ access to sports, gyms and fitness facilities.”
The IOC official stated that a sports team representing Afghanistan, consisting of three women and three men, will be participating in the Olympic Games.
He clarified that the committee has recognized the president of the National Olympic Committee of Afghanistan, who is currently in exile.
The IOC spokesperson added: “We have worked with the President of the National Olympic Committee of Afghanistan and its Secretary-General in exile, and we clearly state that we want a gender-balanced team.”
Mark Adams said: “There will be no place for Taliban officials in Paris. No representative of the official Taliban government will be accredited to attend the 2024 Olympics.”
After the Taliban took over Afghanistan, in addition to educational institutions, all stadiums and sports halls were closed to female athletes.
Over the past two years, no Afghan female athlete has been represented in international competitions, and they are not included in sports team rosters.
