World Food Programme: A quarter of Afghanistan’s population goes to bed hungry every night

Bayan News – Coinciding with the arrival of Eid al-Adha, the World Food Programme (WFP) has reported that 12 million Afghans do not know for certain where their next meal will come from.

The agency wrote on the X platform on Friday, June 14th, that Eid is an opportunity for joy and celebration with friends and family, but for many Afghans it is just another hard day.

The World Food Programme said: “As Eid al-Adha approaches, millions celebrate and gather around food with their families, while a quarter of Afghanistan’s population goes to bed hungry every night.”

The organization has called on the global community to provide more aid during and after the holidays.

According to United Nations statistics, currently 23.7 million people in Afghanistan are in need of humanitarian assistance.
