Protest against the killings in Gaza; Fatima Payman resigns from the Labor Party

Bayan News – Fatima Payman, an Afghan-Australian senator in the Australian Senate from the Labor Party, has resigned.

This Afghan-Australian senator was suspended from the Labor Party a few days ago after she criticized the killing of civilians in Gaza.

The SBS television network reported on Thursday (July 4) that Fatima Payman said her conscience left her no choice.

She said: “With a heavy heart but a clear conscience, I announce my resignation from the Australian Labor Party. I have informed the Prime Minister that I will immediately take my seat as an Independent cross-bench representative for Western Australia in the Parliament.”

Fatima Payman is the first Afghan-Australian senator to protest the deadly attacks by the Israeli army against civilians in Gaza.
