Biden to Israel: We made a mistake in Afghanistan and do not repeat it in Gaza
Bayan News – US President Joe Biden, referring to Israel’s attacks in the Gaza Strip, says the United States made a mistake in Afghanistan and Israel should not repeat that mistake in Gaza.
On Thursday (July 11), in a press conference at the White House, Biden said: “When I went to Israel, after the massacre carried out by Hamas, I told the Israeli War Cabinet not to repeat the US mistake after the Bin Laden issue, there is no need to occupy any territory.”
The US President, stating that Israel should arrest the guilty parties, added: “You know I was completely against the occupation of Afghanistan and that we wanted to unify that country. When we killed Bin Laden, we should have withdrawn, no one was able and could not unify Afghanistan, from the poppy fields in the south to the mountains of the north.”
According to Biden, Israel should not repeat the mistake the US made in Afghanistan; it should find those evil people like Yahya Sinwar. “I told them (the Israeli War Cabinet) that I won’t give them two-thousand-pound bombs to use in residential areas and cause civilian casualties.”
Joe Biden further noted that when Iran’s rockets and ballistic missiles were launched at Israel, he united the Arab and European countries to defend Israel, and this was an incredible lesson.
This is not the first time Joe Biden has spoken about the lack of unity among Afghanistan’s political elites and people.
He had previously said that no one is able to unify Afghanistan; statements that have drawn the anger and dissatisfaction of Afghanistan’s political elites and people.
NATO leaders have referred to Russia as the most significant and direct global threat.
