CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) Warns of the Threat of Terrorism Spreading from Afghanistan

Bayan News – Imangali Tasmagambetov, the Secretary-General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), has recently warned about the increased threat of terrorism spreading from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.

In his speech at the United Nations Security Council meeting on Friday (July 19), he stated that the possibility of further spread of terrorism and drug trafficking from Afghanistan to Central Asia remains.

The CSTO Secretary-General noted that Afghanistan continues to be the main source of instability in Central Asia.

According to the CSTO Secretary-General, a working group on Afghanistan is currently operating under the supervision of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CSTO member states.

Referring to the situation in Afghanistan, the CSTO Secretary-General also emphasized the importance of regular contacts between the United Nations, the CSTO, and Central Asia for preventive measures.

Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, and Iran, which are the main members of this organization, had previously identified Afghanistan as the source of instability in Central Asian countries.

Some members of this organization had clearly stated that terrorist groups in the northern provinces of Afghanistan are threatening the security of Central Asia.
