Karzai Welcomes the Presence of Afghan Female Athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Bayan News – Hamid Karzai, the former President of Afghanistan, welcomed the participation of Afghan female athletes in the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in a message.
Karzai wrote in a message on Saturday (July 27): “It is a great pleasure and honor that the Afghan sports team, with their presence at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics, waved the flag of our beloved country, and our champion girls became the torch bearers of the Olympics with their noble efforts despite living in exile.”
He also expressed the hope that the female athletes would achieve accomplishments in these competitions.
Hamid Karzai is supporting the presence of female athletes in these competitions, while the Taliban had previously clearly opposed the participation of Afghan female athletes, stating that they do not represent Afghanistan.
However, the carrying of the 2024 Paris Olympic torch by Zakia Khudadadi, one of the female athletes from Afghanistan, has been warmly welcomed by social media users.
