The largest prisoner exchange between the United States and Russia; 24 prisoners from both sides were released

Bayan News – The largest prisoner exchange between the United States and Russia since the Cold War took place with the mediation of Turkey, and in this exchange, 24 prisoners from both sides were released.

This event, which occurred on Thursday (August 1), involved the exchange of 16 prisoners from Russia and eight prisoners from the United States and several Western countries.

According to Reuters, the exchange of these prisoners took place at an airport in the city of Ankara, the capital of Turkey, and under the supervision of the intelligence services of this country.

The United States has also confirmed that during this exchange, Ivan Gershkovich, a Wall Street Journal reporter, and Paul Whelan, a former U.S. Navy Marine, were released by Russia.

Simultaneously, the German government has also confirmed that during this exchange, Vadim Krasikov, a Russian citizen accused of killing an exiled Russian opponent in Berlin, was released.

Poland, Slovenia, Norway, and Belarus also participated in this prisoner exchange.

U.S. President Joe Biden welcomed the agreement to exchange these prisoners, describing it as a “masterpiece of diplomacy and friendship.”
