Bangladesh Prime Minister Flees; Army Forms Interim Government

Bayan News – International media have reported that Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned from her position and fled the country by military helicopter after protesters entered her residence.

According to reports published on Monday (August 5th), General Waqar Uz Zaman, Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh, announced in a televised speech that the Prime Minister has left the country and an interim government will be formed.

Based on the reports, Sheikh Hasina has flown to India along with her sister by helicopter.

Images published in the media show thousands of protesters on the streets of the Bangladeshi capital, chanting slogans against Sheikh Hasina’s government. The protesters also stormed the Prime Minister’s residence and chanted slogans.

The images also indicate that the protesters have entered the rooms of the Prime Minister’s official residence and taken desks and chairs with them.
