U.S. State Department: Taliban government lacks legitimacy

Bayan News – Coinciding with the third anniversary of the collapse of Afghanistan’s former government, a U.S. State Department official says the Taliban government lacks legitimacy in the eyes of the international community.

Vedant Patel, the U.S. State Department’s deputy spokesperson, said in a press briefing on Wednesday (August 24) that no country has recognized the Taliban regime so far.

Patel emphasized in the briefing that the Taliban must improve the human rights situation to normalize their relations with the international community.

However, during the third anniversary celebration of their reconquest of Afghanistan, the Taliban paraded with military equipment left behind by the U.S.

Taliban officials at this ceremony stressed the need to normalize their relations with the world.
